Lower Utility Usage

While you may not be able to control the amount you pay for rent or your mortgage, but you can control how much water and electricity you use. Try to take shorter showers and don’t let the water run while you are brushing your teeth. Regarding electricity, avoid leaving lights on when no one is in the room. Reducing the number of lights can also lower electricity costs. Warm in the house but cool outside? Skip the A/C unit and open a window to get some fresh air and a cool breeze in.

Cancel Unnecessary Subscriptions and Services

How often do you watch TV? Do you use that Netflix or Hulu account you pay a subscription fee for every month? Consider canceling any services you and your family don’t use. Avoid getting delivery if you can. Getting food delivered is more expensive from a restaurant and you will need to pay a delivery fee plus a tip for the driver. Have a full pantry, fridge, or freezer? Cut grocery costs by eating the food you already have. Also, try to ration how much you eat. Of course, you want to consistently eat a healthy amount of nutritious food regardless of the situation. However, if you tend to eat heavily and you want to lose a few pounds, eating slightly less will be good for both your wallet and stomach.
