Vehicles featured in the 2018 Oscar-nominated movies 

From Doc Brown’s DeLorean and a Best Sound Effects win for Back to the Future to the Buick Roadmaster in 1989’s Best Picture winner Rain Man, cars have been an important part of the films that Hollywood loves. With the announcement of the 2018 Acadamy Award nominees, now is definitely the right time to take a look at the vehicles that played a role in the cream of the crop of 2017 movies.  

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri 

In a movie about a corrupt police force in a small town, it’s no wonder that the classic cop car, a Ford Crown Victoria, makes an appearance. There are other Ford models that show up in the Best Picture nominated film, like a 1984 Ford B-Series and a 1988 Ford LDT Country Squire.  

The Shape of Water 

Nominated for thirteen awards, The Shape of Water sets a realistic scene as a contrast to the fanciful plot with a variety of 1960’s models, like the Ford Econoline and the Dodge Dart. While most of the vehicles are in the background, the vehicles are an important part of establishing the time period of the film.

Get Out 

Director Jordan Peele is one of three people who have garnered a Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Picture nomination for their first film. Though there isn’t a huge focus on cars, two of the vehicles primarily featured in Get Out include a 2015 Lincoln MKC and a 1983 Porsche 944.  

Baby Driver 

Though not nominated for Best Picture, Baby Driver has been recognized in three different categories. While there isn’t a Best Chase Scene option, this heist film would have been a shoo-in. While the most visible vehicle in the film is a 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX, there are plenty of vehicles featured, like a 2014 Mercedes-Benz S 550 and the 20017 Chevrolet Avalanche.
